Alabama Asphalt Conference – 2023
Thank you very much for your presentation. I have been doing this conference for 20 years; that was the quietest I have seen our group during a presentation. Also, it was the only standing ovation I have ever seen one of our speakers receive.
Mel Monk, P.E., Executive Director
Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa
I was honored that Vince agreed to share his personal story and mission. Numerous individuals thanked me for bringing Vince to our conference.
I highly recommend Vince to anyone organizing a conference. Vince’s message could be lifesaving to your group.

Oklahoma Asphalt Paving Association
I can't thank you enough for presenting at our convention. I had many comments about your talk, saying how great it was and how it impacted those in attendance. The presentation hit home here in Oklahoma. Everyone needs to hear the keynote.

Wally Adamchik said, "The book scared the hell out of me and is a must-read for any human."
Jennifer Wolgemuth, Ph.D., said, "Vince is a groundbreaker in every sense of the word. With relentless compassion and commitment, he unearths the deep pain and helplessness of suicide in the construction industry without shying away from his and others' suffering. This book offers much-needed industry information and up-to-date research on mental health, paving the way for managers and executives to improve the working conditions, mental health, and lives of their most at-risk workers. This book is a must-read for anyone impacted by suicide and everyone committed to preventing it."
The construction industry has the second-highest suicide rate in the U.S. While the industry loses two to three workers each day to job-related accidents, they lose ten to fifteen each day to suicide. Listen as Vince tells the story of his phenomenal life until he attempts to end it.
I share twelve individual stories from those who lost someone to suicide and the results of executive level industry interviews.
What struck me the most about this book was the amount of fatalities of construction workers who lost their life to suicide.
I realized that stress, not only affects office people, but construction workers, too. As they are more inclined to mental health issues, but also high risk of suicide.
The author, Vince Hafeli reveals statistics within the industry; and stories of others and what they've gone through.
But what I appreciated most about his book, Vince shared his personal story about his struggles in life to the point of wanting to end it.
That hit me deep.
This is a man, whom is educated, has title, family and money - and yet, did not want to live anymore. It reminded me that mental health does not discriminate.
Hope and awareness is what the author is bringing out to the world. He wants everyone to feel, hear and see that there is hope; to learn, live and love in this life together.
Everyone should read this book.

Presentation on the impact of mental health and suicide in the construction industry.
What is holding you and your organization in the present and preventing you from addressing mental health, suicide, and transformational leadership? This presentation is built on Vince's suicide attempt, and qualitative research while pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration degree. Vince shares stories of interaction with industry leaders and personal stories of those impacted by suicide.
When I applied as a speaker, the event organizer said, "We only invite speakers from the UK; however, we are going to make an exception. We have been looking for more than two years for someone who could speak on the topic of suicide, and you are that guy."
After a long search, what an honor to be the guy they trusted.
Thank you, Clive!
